Description: India Pierce Lee, Program Director for Neighborhoods, Housing, and Community Development at the Cleveland Foundation, discusses lessons from the foundation's Greater University Circle Initiative, a unique multi-institutional anchor-based partnership with Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, the City of Cleveland, and philanthropic and non-profit organizations engaged in catalytic projects to revitalize neighborhoods that include transportation, wealth building and economic inclusion, employer-assisted housing, and community engagement.  Facilitated by Reese Fayde.

EDUCATION   The Role of Schools in Neighborhood Revitalization

Description: A series of three workshops that explores the role of schools in neighborhood revitalization.  Chris Shea, President and CEO of the East Baltimore Development Inc. (EBDI), discusses how to use a school as an anchor to revitalize a community.  Julie Dopler, Community Learning Center Coordinator at Cincinnati Public Schools, and Cinnamon Pelly from The Community Builders discuss how to create a community-school approach at a neighborhood school.  Patricia Marden-Kish, Director of Education Programs at the Housing Authority of the City of Norwalk, discusses collaborating with over 40 entities to provide afterschool enrichment when neighborhood students attend a variety of schools throughout the district.  Facilitated by Jane Hodgdon from the Department of Education.

Description: Hear from a Choice Neighborhoods grantee about the strategies they have used to combat barriers created by trauma and rebuild community.  Perspectives on the approach are shared by the Director of Housing and Community Development and by a Community Builder and resident.
