Housing Authority of Bowling Green EnVision Center Wins First Place in Youth Zoom Competition
For many years the SERC-NARHO (Southeastern Regional Council National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials) basketball tournament, held annually during Martin Luther King holiday weekend, had been a staple in housing authorities’ youth programs. Due to COVID-19, they could not host a basketball tournament, but they did commit to keeping the education component alive. They had a Zoom competition on Saturday, January 16, 2021, and the cost was $100 per housing authority. Participating Housing Authorities included Selma, Opp, Birmingham, Laurel, and Bowling Green.
Organized by age groups (i.e., 12 and under, 15 and under, and 18 and under), the competitions focused on a variety of categories. Categories included:
- Art design depicting what housing means to them;
- Why the Edmund Pettus Bridge should be named after the late Representative John Lewis;
- Sports essay on favorite player;
- Creative I have a dream speeches;
- Naming a person in their community they admire and why;
- Why Black Lives Matter and voting is important;
- Focusing on the first African-American President, Barack Obama, participants read excerpts from his memoir Audacity of Hope and identified why his presidency was important;
- Designing an outfit, shirt, and/or head attire that acknowledged a prominent figure; and
- Identifying which college they would like to attend and why.
First place winners received airpods. Second place winners received a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and third place winners received an echo dot. All winners also received an award medal with the event information on it.
“As for myself, I felt that I was learning something new each time a new participant spoke,” said facilitator Camille Tinsley. “That’s the part that I enjoyed most, learning something new from someone younger than me.”
“I had a great time facilitating the 15 and under group,” said facilitator Amber Turner. “We were able to experience a group of talented and bright young kids! Each child thoroughly researched their chosen topic and boldly delivered their presentations with such enthusiasm and conviction. Thank you for allowing me to be apart!”
Overall winners by housing authority were calculated by the number of wins. Each first place win received 3 points. Second place finishes received 2 points and Third place received 1 point.
- 1st place - Bowling Green
- 2nd place - Birmingham
- 3rd place - Opp

HUD, LOCAL OFFICIALS DESIGNATE ENVISION CENTER IN LANCASTER
Center to help HUD-assisted households become self-sufficient
PHILADELPHIA—U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Joe DeFelice virtually announced today the designation of Franklin Terrace as an EnVision Center site in Lancaster, Pa. Joining him for the announcement were City of Lancaster Mayor Danene Sorace, Lancaster City Housing Authority (LCHA) Executive Director Barbara Wilson and LCHA Resident Services Coordinator Izzy Rivera.
“While the work we do at HUD to provide public housing is absolutely critical, one of our key priorities is to help the individuals and families we serve become economically independent and self-sufficient,” said Regional Administrator DeFelice. “Secretary Carson has long said that our measure of success is not how many people we can get into our programs, but how many people we can graduate out of them.”
EnVision Centers offer HUD-assisted families access to support services that can help them achieve self-sufficiency, thereby making scarce federal resources more readily available to a greater number of households currently waiting to receive HUD assistance.
“I really see this as an opportunity to elevate the work the housing authority has already begun and to deepen the work to support the residents of the city of Lancaster,” said Mayor Sorace in her remarks during the virtual announcement.
HUD Secretary Ben Carson launched the HUD EnVision Center Demonstration in June 2018, as one of his signature initiatives. Located on or near public housing developments, EnVision Centers are centralized hubs that support four key pillars of self-sufficiency: (1) Economic Empowerment, (2) Educational Advancement, (3) Health and Wellness, and (4) Character and Leadership.
“The Lancaster City Housing Authority is very honored to have Franklin Terrace recognized by HUD as an EnVision Center,” said Wilson. “Since my hiring as the executive director, the LCHA board of commissioners gave me permission to seek out community partners who share my same commitment and vision—a vision of creating an environment that provides unique opportunities for resident services that are consistent and holistic, empowering families and individuals to become successful in their endeavors.”
The initiative is premised on the notion that financial support alone is insufficient to solve the problem of poverty. Intentional and collective efforts across a diverse set of organizations are needed to empower households to reach self-sufficiency.
“We look forward to this amazing opportunity to partner with HUD and local agencies to provide a much-needed service to the 564 public housing residents of the Lancaster City Housing Authority,” said Rivera.
The Franklin Terrace EnVision Center is the 13th site designation in the Mid-Atlantic region. The 12 other sites are located in McKees Rocks, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, Pa., Washington, D.C., Williamson, W.Va.; Wilmington, Del. and Bristol, Hopewell, Lebanon, Newport News, Norfolk and Roanoke, Va. Nationwide, there are 92 centers.

HUD DESIGNATES ENVISION CENTER IN MCKEES ROCKS
Center to help HUD-assisted households become self-sufficient
PHILADELPHIA - U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Joe DeFelice virtually announced today the designation of Hays Manor as an EnVision Center in McKees Rocks, Pa. Joining him for the announcement were Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Allegheny County Housing Authority (ACHA) Executive Director Frank Aggazio, ACHA Deputy Executive Director Dr. Beverly Moore, Focus on Renewal Executive Director Cynthia Haines and HUD Pittsburgh Field Office Director Michael Horvath.
“We are thrilled that the Housing Authority has been selected for participation in the HUD EnVision Center Initiative, an effort that will be undertaken with the support of Focus on Renewal Sto-Rox, to the benefit of the residents of this community,” said County Executive Fitzgerald. “Our shared commitment to enhancing economic mobility and identifying skill gaps that exist in our community among distinct neighborhoods and demographics will benefit from the initiative. More importantly, our residents will benefit from an effort that will support long-term and sustainable employment that places low income individuals and families on track to become self-sufficient.”
The initiative is premised on the notion that financial support alone is insufficient to solve the problem of poverty. Intentional and collective efforts across a diverse set of organizations are needed to empower households to reach self-sufficiency.
I am excited for the residents of Hays Manor for the EnVision Center, as it will empower our households toward self-sufficiency, economic empowerment, educational advancement, health and wellness and character and leadership,” said McKees Rocks Mayor Jack Muhr. “Thank you, HUD. This has been a long time coming.”
The target service area of the EnVision Center will include the entire McKees Rocks community in Allegheny County.
“The Hays Manor Envision Center will be providing programs such as Head Start, after school learning and adult job readiness through our partner, Focus on Renewal,” said Aggazio. “This comprehensive strategy will empower the residents of Hays Manor to reach their full potential and attain self-sufficiency. The center will remain an asset to the community for many years to come.”
“Collaboration, coordination and communication must be the hallmarks of the EnVision Center for the benefit of our community,” said Haines. “Federal, state and local governments, places of worship, private businesses, community-based organizations—including Grow Sto-Rox, ACHA staff and Hays Manor residents—can harness the power and energy necessary to transition to a place of self-sufficiency and empowerment. I am happy to be a part of the team."
The Hays Manor EnVision Center is the 12th site designation in the Mid-Atlantic region. The 11 other sites are located in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, Pa., Washington, D.C., Williamson, W.Va.; Wilmington, Del. and Bristol, Hopewell, Lebanon, Newport News, Norfolk and Roanoke, Va. Nationwide, there are 92 centers.
“On behalf of the HUD Pittsburgh Field Office, I extend sincere congratulations to the Allegheny County Housing Authority on the Hays Manor EnVision Center's designation,” said Horvath. “I look forward to working with the EnVision Center team to develop partnerships with federal agencies and area stakeholders to help residents achieve a brighter future.”

HUD DESIGNATES NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR FIRST ENVISION CENTER IN COLORADO
DENVER - United States Department of Housing and Urban Development announced Neighbor to Neighbor, located in Larimer County, as the first HUD EnVision Center designation in Colorado. Neighbor to Neighbor will initially focus its EnVision Center work with residents of N2N’s affordable housing communities with plans to expand to other N2N service areas.
EnVision Centers are centralized hubs that serve as an incubator to support four key pillars of self-sufficiency - (1) Economic Empowerment, (2) Educational Advancement, (3) Health and Wellness, and (4) Character and Leadership. The designation serves as a critical component of HUD Secretary Ben Carson’s EnVision Center initiative to offer a holistic approach to housing and health by connecting HUD-assisted families with the tools that facilitate self-sufficiency and economic mobility.
“We are thrilled that Neighbor to Neighbor received this designation to continue the important work to help individuals and families become economically independent and self-sufficient,” said Rocky Mountain Regional Administrator Evelyn Lim. “Expanding on their current programming, Neighbor to Neighbor will expand their reach and open doors to people all over Larimer county.”
“At Neighbor to Neighbor, we envision communities where everyone has opportunity and access to a stable home because home is the foundation for success,” shared N2N Executive Director, Kelly Evans. “Economic stability is a pillar of the EnVision Center concept. Financial health is a central focus of all Neighbor to Neighbor programs, and we look forward to continued organizational growth in these areas as a HUD EnVision Center.”
Neighbor to Neighbor’s array of services cover the housing continuum from homelessness and eviction prevention, affordable property management, resident and youth services, homeownership education, and foreclosure prevention counseling. Neighbor to Neighbor has provided housing stability services for over 50 years and impacts over 6,000 residents of Northern Colorado with housing stability services and educational opportunities each year.
As an EnVision Center, Neighbor to Neighbor will continue their work with the Youth Engagement Club for youth to gain new skills in the areas of financial, physical, and emotional health to cultivate self-sufficiency. They will offer resident services that include budget counseling, eviction prevention, health and wellness, and leadership opportunities.

HUD SECRETARY BEN CARSON DESIGNATES ENVISION CENTER IN ATLANTIC CITY
The RX5 Cyber EnVision Center will immediately create 300 new certified contact tracing jobs to collect critically important COVID-19 pandemic data
Atlantic City, New Jersey - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary, Dr. Ben Carson, officially designated the RX5 Cyber Center as the newest EnVision Center in New Jersey. The designation came after months of assessments of local needs and services for underserved residents in Atlantic City.
EnVision Centers, created by Secretary Carson, are centralized hubs that provide residents with the resources needed to excel and access support under the following four pillars: Economic Empowerment, Educational Advancement, Health and Wellness; and Character and Leadership. The EnVision Centers initiative is premised on the notion that financial support alone is insufficient to solve the problem of poverty. Intentional and collective efforts across a diverse set of organizations are needed to empower households to self-sufficiency.
“The designation of the RX5 Cyber EnVision Center represents a huge leap towards economic opportunity for Atlantic City residents that are looking to expand skills that can empower them to financial independence,” said Lynne Patton, HUD Regional Administrator for New York and New Jersey. “I look forward to working with the EnVision Center team to bring federal partners and area stakeholders that can help residents open doors towards self-sufficiency.”
The driving force behind the RX5 Cyber EnVision Center is James Whitehead, Co-Founder and President of U.S. HART, and Director of RX5 Cyber Data Call Center, located at 3317 Atlantic Avenue. The location is a 2000 sq. ft. office space located in an Opportunity Zone and designed as COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) workspace. The RX5 Cyber EnVision Center will immediately create 300 new certified contact tracing jobs to collect critically important COVID-19 pandemic data.
“There is a dire need for jobs and job training in Atlantic City. The RX5 Cyber EnVision Center strategically partnered with Millennium Technologies, DELL Technologies, iAbra, Intel, and CohnReznick, to provide jobs and tools that will bolster opportunities for area residents,” said James Whitehead, Director, RX5 Cyber EnVision Center. “These partners will also provide emergency disaster “prepare, respond, recover” solutions, integrating call center data collection jobs with proven data science technologies. Congratulations Atlantic City for taking the lead to help America heal!”
The RX5 Cyber EnVision Center will also offer workforce training, preparation for GED, youth field trips, and COVID-19 emergency food distribution for unemployed residents. COVID-19 PPE distribution will be available to economically disadvantaged communities. The hours of operation will be Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
“This program not only brings much-needed jobs, job training, and economic activity to Atlantic City, it also serves as an integral solution to some of the pressing issues caused by Coronavirus,” said Congressman Jeff Van Drew, (NJ-02). “Thank you to Secretary Carson and HUD for implementing this program, and I look forward to the success this will enable in South Jersey.”
“I am committed to supporting and working with Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver, HUD Region II Administrator Lynne Patton, and Millennium Technologies President Jimmy Whitehead on Atlantic City’s RX5 Cyber EnVision Center workforce training program,” said Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. “Mr. Whitehead has been advocating for and creating America’s first Cyber Triangle, which includes RX5 cybersecurity workforce training in our great city of Atlantic City for several years now. It’s great to partner with the RX5 Cyber EnVision Center and bring these important data industry jobs to the greatest oceanfront city in America!”
EnVision Centers in New York and New Jersey are procured and organized by Barbara Gruson, HUD Region II EnVision Center Lead. Barbara connects EnVision Centers to federal partners and local community leaders, to ensure that area residents have access to federal programs and services.
“I am thrilled that Secretary Carson recognized that the RX5 Cyber Center and HUD can measurably improve the quality of life of underserved Atlantic City residents,” said Barbara Gruson, HUD Region II EnVision Center Lead. “I will work closely with RX5 Cyber EnVision Center partners to facilitate connections that will bring the Four Pillars: Economic Empowerment, Educational Advancement, Health and Wellness; and Character and Leadership to area residents.”
Community leaders, area stakeholders, and support organizations that assist low and moderate income families are essential to EnVision Centers because they are the eyes and ears of their communities and are aware of resident needs. HUD provides guidance and resources, rounding up other federal partners that can work together to improve the lives of the residents of Atlantic City.
Atlantic City Police Lieutenant Wilber Santiago stated, “Atlantic City’s Police Athletic League (PAL) is very excited about the Atlantic City RX5 Cyber EnVision Center Makerspace youth STEM, 3D printing, and Drone program, which will introduce Atlantic City students to new technologies and help prepare them for America’s future workforce opportunities.”
Currently, there are 77 EnVision Centers in the United States, and over 20 are in the works. The Atlantic City site is the third in HUD Region II, which encompasses New York and New Jersey, and the second one in New Jersey. EnVision Centers have brought together 22 federal partners like the Department of Education and the Department of Health to assist local residents, and 9 national non-profit organizations. EnVision Center services and resources are tailored around community need.
“After overcoming difficult life challenges, it’s amazing to have an opportunity to mentor others at the wonderful Atlantic City RX5 Cyber EnVision Center. Only in America can someone like me and my mentor Floyd Mayweather achieve success by working hard,” said Paul Bonds, representative for boxing icon Floyd Mayweather. “The RX5 Cyber EnVision Center grew out of the March 2020 Atlantic City Opportunity Zone Black Capitalism Summit, when I had the honor to receive the U.S. HART Humanitarian Eagle Award on behalf of Floyd Mayweather. Floyd’s phrase “do good while doing well” resonated with the RX5 Call Center, and it was adopted as ‘Helping the world become a better and safer place’. Thank you Champ for your inspiration and friendship. God bless America!”
According to the American Community Survey, 37.7% of Atlantic City’s 37,743 residents live in poverty. Area Median Income is $27,786, while income per capita is $19,924. City residents need jobs and job training, and an EnVision Center can assist in closing the gap for many in search of jobs that need a hand up.
The Atlantic City RX5 Cyber EnVision Center’s grand opening is scheduled for November 2020.

Planning Commission forwards EnVision center request to council
A request to allow the Bristol Redevelopment and Housing Authority to establish a community resource center sailed through the Planning Commission on Monday but not before commissioners voiced support for a homeless day center no longer included in those plans. The commission voted 6-0 to recommend the City Council approve the authority’s request for a special exception to allow the EnVision center at 712 Oakview Ave. The center would be a federal Housing and Urban Development-designated facility offering educational classes, job search assistance and health care services. An exception is needed since the property is zoned R-2 for single and two-family residential and doesn’t currently allow a community resource center. The authority’s original request in August included space for a day center for the homeless, but that component was removed from the plans after some concerns arose. "I was very pleased with the outcome, and I was also pleased with the comments about the day center that I heard today," BRHA Executive Director Lisa Porter said. "We may revisit that at some point." Asked if another request to establish a homeless day center might come forward, she said, "We’ll have to see, but the most important thing today is the EnVision center got the approval." The authority owns the 3,000-square-foot building located adjacent to Johnson Court and the former Douglass school.

Roanoke’s EnVision Center starts food pantry, accepting donations
The EnVision Center, part of Roanoke’s Redevelopment and Housing Authority, now has its own food pantry. The food pantry began two weeks ago and has everything from non-perishable food to toothbrushes and toothpastes, thanks to donors. Forest Park Church and Delta Dental have made contributions so far. The pantry is open to everyone, but the center is hoping to target the senior population.
“We’re trying to target a majority of our senior and elderly folks who live in the area, because especially with COVID, they may not be able to get out to the store and get what they need, but it’s for everyone. We don’t want to turn anyone away, so if you need a toothbrush, some granola bars, cereal, we’re obviously going to try and help you,” said Greg Goodman, Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority’s family self-sufficient coordinator. Scratch Biscuit in Grandin Village has a donation box for the pantry. In case you would like to donate supplies, the pantry is always looking for paper towels and toilet paper.

Council to host public hearing on EnVision center
The Bristol Virginia City Council will conduct a public hearing tonight about a revised proposal for a Bristol Redevelopment and Housing Authority resource center. The authority is seeking a special exception and wants to establish an "EnVision center" at 712 Oakview Ave. The center is a federal Department of Housing and Urban Development designation of a facility offering "Educational classes, job search assistance and health care services." The project originally included a proposed day center for the homeless, but that has since been deleted. "We wanted to make sure the EnVision center does get approval, and we thought, with the day center attached to it, it put that [approval] at risk," Lisa Porter, BRHA executive director said Monday. Last week, the Cumberland Plateau Regional Housing Authority in Lebanon announced it is establishing an EnVision center to serve low-income residents in that area. "The EnVision center’s services are similar to what we’ve always done, but we’re going to be able to offer it to non-BRHA clients," Porter said. "This will connect us with resources that we didn’t have before." The services to be provided at the EnVision center include "educational classes, such as GED, financial literacy and parenting, job search assistance, health services and substance abuse counseling. The services will be available to anyone in the area and not exclusive to BRHA residents," according to the city’s preliminary staff report.

New Hopewell center aims to improve financial independence
One Hopewell center is helping individuals attain self-sufficiency and financial independence through a holistic path. The U.S. Housing and Urban Development developed a new EnVision Center that will offer support services for residents. It is built on the principle that poverty cannot be solved through financial assistance alone.
"We will not measure success by the number of people who enter this new EnVision Center," stated Joseph DeFelice, mid-atlantic regional administrator for HUD. "Success will be measured by the number of individuals who achieve greater self-sufficiency-who no longer require assistance from our programs-who gain the financial independence to be able to rent, or even buy their own homes."
The demonstration is at the Davisville Community Center on 913 Rev. CW Harris St. in Hopewell and located near public housing developments. The center focuses on four pillars: economic empowerment, educational advancement, health and wellness, and character and leadership.
Griffith touts EnVision Center in Lebanon
Business Journal of Tri Cities
U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (VA-9) was on hand this week to cut the ribbon for a new Department of Housing and Urban Development facility in Lebanon, Va. HUD’s EnVision Centers are tasked with offering support for assisted families to help them achieve self-sufficiency and, thereby, make limited federal resources available to others awaiting assistance. The centers are premised on the idea that financial support alone is insufficient to solve poverty. Intentional and collective efforts across various organizations are needed to realize a more holistic path to foster lasting self-sufficiency. "We will not measure success by the number of people who enter this new EnVision Center," said Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Joseph J. DeFelice. "Success will be measured by the number of individuals who achieve greater self-sufficiency-who no longer require assistance from our programs-who gain the financial independence to be able to rent, or even buy their own homes." The announcement was made at the Cumberland Plateau Regional Housing Authority in Lebanon. The agency serves residents in Dickenson, Russell, Tazewell and Buchanan counties. Located on or near public housing developments, EnVision Centers provide communities with a centralized hub to access support in the following four pillars: Economic Empowerment, Educational Advancement, Health and Wellness, and Character and Leadership.

Breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty’: New HUD EnVision Center helps families in need
A new effort in Hopewell to help low-income families get out of public housing and live independently kicked off Tuesday. The U.S. Housing and Urban Development has partnered with the city of Hopewell to announce a new designated HUD EnVision Center demonstration with the Hopewell Redevelopment and Housing Authority. The effort is in unison with 60 communities across the country working to offer support services for the benefit of its residents. It’s the first of its kind in Central Virginia.
The idea is to empower youth and adults with the tools to transform their lives. "Don’t be a statistic to your surroundings," said Deralla Brown, a single mother of six who lives in Hopewell’s public housing community. She told 8News she is determined to one day, buy a home of her own. Brown says she now runs her own business, crediting her success to the local non-profit: STORY. She said Story gave her the tool and support to work toward her dreams. The non-profit even helped her with a critical need like child care. "They help to get my kids off the bus safely," she said. "By the time I got to them at 6 o’clock, they already did their homework." Brown said she couldn’t be more excited to learn STORY is the main partner in Hopewell’s new HUD EnVision Center. Inside the Davisville Community Center, low-income residents will have access to economic, educational, health and leadership support, all under one roof. “The EnVision center will help them,” Brown said. “It will help them to push you, you know, give them motivation.”
Joe DeFelice, Regional Administrator with HUD, says the move puts people on the road to self-sufficiency. “What this is about today is breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty,” he said.

HUD AND LOCAL OFFICIALS KICK OFF ENVISION CENTER DEMONSTRATION IN HOPEWELL
HOPEWELL, Va. - To help low-income residents increase their income and gain self-sufficiency, the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Joseph J. DeFelice joined City of Hopewell Mayor Jasmine Gore in announcing a new designated HUD EnVision Center demonstration with the Hopewell Redevelopment and Housing Authority (HRHA), joining 60 communities across the country taking this vital step to offer support services for the benefit of its residents.
HUD’s EnVision Center demonstration offers assisted families support to help them achieve self-sufficiency and, thereby, making limited federal resources available to others awaiting assistance. It is premised on the fact that financial support alone is insufficient to solve poverty. Intentional and collective efforts across various organizations are needed to realize a more holistic path to foster lasting self-sufficiency.
“We will not measure success by the number of people who enter this new EnVision Center,” stated DeFelice. “Success will be measured by the number of individuals who achieve greater self-sufficiency—who no longer require assistance from our programs—who gain the financial independence to be able to rent, or even buy their own homes.”
The announcement was made at the Davisville Community Center on 913 Rev CW Harris Street in Hopewell. Located on or near public housing developments, EnVision Centers provide communities with a centralized hub to access support in the following four pillars: Economic Empowerment, Educational Advancement, Health and Wellness, and Character and Leadership. Representatives from the offices of U.S. Senators Mark Warner (D-VA) and Tim Kaine (D-VA) and U.S. Congressman Donald McEachin (D-VA-4th District) were on hand for the event.
“HRHA is grateful and energized by the opportunity to participate as an EnVision Center provider. This will enhance the efforts already being taken by the authority to facilitate economic self-sufficiency for our residents and our community. Our mission is to promote adequate and affordable housing, economic opportunity and a suitable living environment free from discrimination,” stated HRHA Chief Executive Officer Steven A. Benham, Sr. “A core value of HRHA is to provide exceptional customer service both internally and externally. Through responsible leadership, teamwork and collaboration we are a catalyst for positive change in the community.
The EnVision Center is a perfect complement to existing efforts to improve the quality of life of all low-income persons in Hopewell. We are fortunate to have great community partners at the table working to provide Economic Empowerment, Educational Advancement, Health and Wellness, and Character and Leadership. We are very excited to move our efforts to a higher level via the EnVision Center concept.”
“I am incredibly excited about this new opportunity that the HRHA was able to create for their residents!” exclaimed Mayor Gore. “Community advocates have known that equitable resources within the community is key to help everyone have the ability to reach their fullest potential. It is critical now more than ever to invest in human capital. The HRHA has demonstrated that they can leverage economic investment with economic mobility to ensure that residents can improve their quality of life.
In order to do this, services much like what will be offered in the EnVision Center are a necessity. The City is currently in the process of mirroring a similar layout to support Hopewell residents and promote cross-department collaboration. I look forward to seeing the positive results from the EnVision Center serve as a shining example throughout the City of Hopewell.”
On hand for the announcement was Kathryn Thompson, Executive Director of Southside Transformation Opportunities for Residents and Youth (STORY), HRHA’s nonprofit partner in the new venture.
"I am very excited about the opening of the Hopewell EnVision Center,” added Thompson. “The Partnership for Healthy Public Housing Communities is committed to systems level change to benefit public housing and other low-income citizens of Hopewell. We are very excited about the potential for new federal, state and local partnerships and opportunities that will enable us to offer programs that rewrite the stories of these families. We are very proud of our work thus far and will continue to focus on trauma informed schools and communities as we expand into workforce training and development.”

EnVision Center’ location and HUD program opens in Lebanon, Virginia
Regional leaders paid a visit to Lebanon Monday, bearing good news. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development continues expanding its nationwide EnVision Center program. The latest addition is now open and ready in the Fox Meadows community. The Cumberland Plateau Regional Housing Authority covers Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell and Tazewell Counties. The public housing agency is working to bridge its families and residents with local, state and federal resources for help. This can range in sectors involving economic empowerment, educational advancement, health and wellness and character and leadership.
"You hit those four pillars, which they are doing here through testing, job training, the community college, art classes and things like that," said HUD Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Joe DeFelice. "They’ve set the stage and now we’re going to help them expand upon that and it’s not just HUD, it’s working with our other federal agencies. This just gets the federal government in the building so that people don’t have to go to the [Small Business Administration], the Department of Labor and then go to HUD, they can come here, work with our team," said DeFelice. "Our team both out of Philadelphia and Washington has direct line here."

FOR RELEASE Monday October 5, 2020 |
GRIFFITH JOINS HUD AND LOCAL OFFICIALS TO KICK OFF ENVISION CENTER DEMONSTRATION IN LEBANON
LEBANON, Va. - To help low-income residents increase their income and gain self-sufficiency, the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Joseph J. DeFelice joined U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) and Nelson A. "Tony" Dodi, Mayor of Lebanon in announcing a new designated HUD EnVision Center demonstration with the Cumberland Plateau Regional Housing Authority (CPRHA), joining 60 communities across the country taking this vital step to offer support services for the benefit of its residents.
HUD's EnVision Center demonstration offers assisted families support to help them achieve self-sufficiency and, thereby, making limited federal resources available to others awaiting assistance. It is premised on the fact that financial support alone is insufficient to solve poverty. Intentional and collective efforts across various organizations are needed to realize a more holistic path to foster lasting self-sufficiency.
"We will not measure success by the number of people who enter this new EnVision Center," stated DeFelice. "Success will be measured by the number of individuals who achieve greater self-sufficiency—who no longer require assistance from our programs—who gain the financial independence to be able to rent, or even buy their own homes."
The announcement was made at the Cumberland Plateau Regional Housing Authority, 35 Fox Meadow Drive in Lebanon. On hand for the announcement were leaders from partnering organizations, Southwest Virginia Community College and Southwest Virginia Workforce.
"The new EnVision Center in Lebanon will be a great support for people who need assistance on the path to self-sufficiency," said Congressman Griffith. "It brings together in one place the economic, educational, health, and community engagement resources that help those who now rely on government aid move beyond it. I appreciate the commitment of the Trump Administration and HUD to the people of our region who may need a bit of assistance in achieving independence."
"We are ecstatic to receive the Department of Housing and Urban Development designation of HUD EnVision Center. This designation provides us with additional opportunity to foster our partnerships with Federal, State, and Local agencies in fulfillment of our mission statement—commitment to excellence in providing quality housing and an environment that will ensure all residents opportunity, access to resources, and the expectation that our communities will be a safe, secure place to live and realize their potential," added Keith Viers, Executive Director of the Cumberland Plateau Regional Housing Authority.
"On behalf of myself and the Lebanon Town Council, we would like to congratulate Keith Viers and the Cumberland Plateau Regional Housing Authority for being selected for an EnVision Center that will greatly benefit our HUD residents in achieving self-sufficiency," added Mayor Dodi.

First EnVision Center Designated In West Virginia
HUD R3 No. 20-132 Nika Edwards (267) 374-2053 |
FOR RELEASE Monday October 5, 2020 |
FIRST ENVISION CENTER DESIGNATED IN WEST VIRGINIA
Williamson to help HUD-assisted households become self-sufficient
PHILADELPHIA—U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Joe DeFelice announced today the designation of the Williamson Family Resource Center as the state’s first EnVision Center. Joining him for the announcement were City of Williamson Mayor Charles Hatfield, Housing Authority of the City of Williamson Executive Director Pauline Sturgill and representatives from the offices of U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and U.S. Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV-3rd District).
EnVision Centers offer HUD-assisted families access to support services that can help them achieve self-sufficiency, thereby making scarce federal resources more readily available to a greater number of households currently waiting to receive HUD assistance.
The Williamson Family Resource Center is the eighth site designation in the Mid-Atlantic region. The seven other sites are located in Philadelphia, Pa., Washington, D.C., Wilmington, Del., and Newport News, Norfolk, Roanoke and Bristol, Va. Nationwide, there are 60 centers.
“While the work we do at HUD to provide public housing is absolutely critical, one of our key priorities is to help the individuals and families we serve become economically independent and self-sufficient,” said DeFelice. “Secretary Carson has long said that our measure of success is not how many people we can get into our programs, but how many people we can graduate out of them.”
“On behalf of the citizens of the City of Williamson, I am so very pleased that our community has been selected and designated as an Envision Center demonstration site,” said Hatfield. “The honor is ours to participate in Secretary Carson’s vision for real empowerment to our community. The resources of our municipality and all our community stakeholders will be collaboratively engaged to make this effort a success. This recognition and achievement are the result of the hard work and dedication of Executive Director Pauline Sturgill, her board at the Housing Authority of the City of Williamson, and the wonderful employees and staff that unselfishly strive to bring only the best to the residents they serve.”
“The Williamson Housing Authority is deeply honored to be recognized by HUD as an EnVision Center,” said Sturgill. “Four years ago, the Authority’s board of commissioners gave me permission to seek out community partners who shared the same commitment and vision as the Authority—a vision of creating a safe environment that provides unique opportunities for family services that are consistent and holistic, thus empowering families to become successful. The Williamson Family Resource Center’s achievements are a reflection of that initial collaborative effort, and we look forward to building on the Authority’s existing programs to help low-income families across Mingo County and the region achieve self-sufficiency."
“The Williamson Housing Authority has assisted West Virginians for more than eight decades, providing safe and affordable housing for those in need,” said Senator Manchin. “I applaud Pauline Sturgill for her tireless efforts to designate the Williamson Housing Authority as an EnVision Center, which will be the first designation in West Virginia. This will support their current mission to help West Virginians get back on their feet. I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of this center on the community members in the years to come.”
“I am glad to see this new EnVision Center designation today in Williamson,” said Congresswoman Miller. “This center will provide West Virginians with the tools and resources they need to build a strong family and a successful career. Investing in our communities now will build the foundations for a strong workforce in the future. Thank you, Secretary Carson, for your commitment to supporting our region.”

In-person fair draws job hunters in Gary
Job seekers roamed the Gary EnVision Center Wednesday looking for new opportunities. Only this time, they wore face coverings along with employers who set up tables with plastic shields around the former DuBois Library at 1835 Broadway, now owned by the Gary Housing Authority.
WorkOne and the EnVision Center partnered for what they believe is the first local in-person job fair since the coronavirus pandemic shutdown that began in March. The pandemic has hurt Gary workers more than most in Indiana. The city’s unemployment rate soared to 15.8% last month, compared to 7.5% in the previous August. Indiana’s August 2020 unemployment rate was 6.4%, compared to the national rate of 8.4%, according to the state Department of Workforce Development.
Jose Ibarra, GHA director of resident services, said there have been virtual job fairs since March, but in-person ones are favored by job hunters and employers. Wednesday’s fair drew several employers including representatives from McDonald’s, Schneider, a trucking and logistics company, MDwise, a nonprofit health care company, the Illinois Central Bus Co. and the Gary Public Library. Ibarra said two more job fairs are planned for October.

DCHA Envision Center Hosts Health Screenings through Partnership with UMC and GW School Of Nursing
District of Columbia Housing Authority website
Residents and neighbors of the greater Greenleaf community were the first community to benefit from the new partnership with health and community support providers this week.
The District of Columbia Housing Authority entered into a partnership with The Not-for-Profit Hospital Corporation commonly referred to as United Medical Center and the George Washington University School of Nursing to provide general health screenings and COVID-19 testing at all of its senior and disabled properties and several family properties using UMC’s Mobile Health Unit.
In addition, to the mobile clinic, the nursing staff and students were also taking general health screenings at the EnVision and Southwest Family Enhancement and Career Center where the GOOD Project was holding its virtual learning hub for some of the community’s school-aged children.
“The health, safety, and education of our residents is of the utmost importance. These partnerships seek to eliminate barriers to healthcare, reduce health disparities, and make it easier for many of the District of Columbia’s most vulnerable residents to receive quality health and support services in their community,” said DCHA Executive Director Tyrone Garrett. “Many individuals have been unable to make preventive and primary health care visits while they stay home during the stay at home order, so DCHA is working to bring health care directly to our residents.”
The greater Greenleaf community, including Greenleaf Gardens, Greenleaf Senior, James Creek, and Syphax Gardens, was the first of several DCHA neighborhoods in Wards 6, 7, and 8, that will be visited by UMC’s Mobile Health Clinic. The clinic, funded in part by DCHA through the CARES Act, will bring primary care, general health screenings, and COVID-19 testing into communities where people may not have access during this critical time. The clinic also will be able to help residents who have limited physical mobility, help manage chronic medical conditions, and have transportation challenges, among other services.
Dr. Erin Athey, who is both a nurse practitioner at United Medical Center & faculty member at the George Washington University School of Nursing, forged these partnerships with the D.C. Housing Authority as a part of her community work in Southeast, D.C.
“This lets us get in touch with people and see what is happening, to reach out and see how they are doing,” she said. “We are consistently trying to reach folks out in the community and help facilitate them getting back to their primary care doctors. We are trying to be that bridge.”
The nursing program is in addition to the enhanced safety protocols already being instituted throughout DCHA’s portfolio. DCHA anticipates providing a staging and screening area, work stations, office space, and a respite area for nursing personnel to accomplish this endeavor.

HUD SECRETARY DESIGNATES FORT PECK HOUSING AUTHORITY AS NEW ENVISION CENTER
POPLAR, MONTANA - United States Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the latest HUD EnVision Center designation, located at the Fort Peck Housing Authority in Poplar, Montana. The Fort Peck Housing Authority is an agency of the federally recognized Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. Through partnerships with federal agencies, state and local governments, non-profits, faith-based organizations, corporations, public housing authorities, and health organizations, EnVision Centers leverage public-private partnerships to connect HUD-assisted households and individuals with services that offer pathways to self-sufficiency.
"EnVision Centers are a way to help connect local resources with the people who need them most," said HUD Secretary Ben Carson. "They empower people to reach their highest potentials by leveraging funding to supply education, job training, financial literacy, and mentoring." See Secretary Carson’s full message here.
HUD Rocky Mountain Regional Administrator Evelyn Lim added, "The foundation of EnVision Centers is making connections. These connections empower people to come together to build on the pillars of EnVision Centers that represent a thriving community."
The Fort Peck EnVision Center is the first EnVision Center in the state of Montana.
Plans for the Fort Peck EnVision Center include:

- Increase the number of residents who participate in health and safety activities offered through local service providers; and
- Increase the number of youth residents engaged in leadership programs and summer programs to enhance leadership skills and civic engagement.

"What started as a mission to save a blighted building has turned into a collaborative to change a community," said Amy Blansit, Founder & CEO of the Drew Lewis Foundation. Old Melrose Library to become hub for helping low-income Roanokers
The former Melrose library building is slated to become a community hub where citizens can improve their financial outlook, their educational opportunities, their health and even their character. On Aug. 17, the Roanoke City Council agreed to sell the empty building to the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority for $10, so that the authority can then convert the old library into an EnVision Center with help of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. EnVision centers bring local nonprofit agencies together to provide opportunities for mostly low-income individuals and families. According to HUD, the centers’ mission is founded on four pillars: economic empowerment, educational advancement, health/wellness, and character and leadership. The city’s current EnVision Center will move from the Villages at Lincoln to the Melrose building when renovations to the old library are complete, said Frederick Gusler, the housing authority’s director of redevelopment and revitalization. "We’re in the process of getting started renovating the building and making some much-needed repairs," Gusler said. Gusler added that the housing authority is working with local agencies about providing services when the EnVision Center opens in its new location. One of the center’s primary goals will be to help low-income citizens improve their economic well-being. The services will be open to all Roanokers, not just residents of the authority’s housing facilities.

Phillipsburg EnVision Center Partner Assists Community During the Pandemic
Phillipsburg, New Jersey - The pandemic has not stopped the New Jersey Youth Corps of Phillipsburg (NJYCP). NJYCP is a Phillipsburg EnVision Center partner and a state-funded, locally operated program serving young adults aged 16-25 without a high school diploma. Although the pandemic resulted in a shift to a digital platform for its curriculum, NJYCP found unique ways to identify service opportunities for its members. Utilizing some resources from a New Jersey Department of Transportation grant, staff installed 25 wrought-iron hanging flower baskets along South Main Street in the business district. With funds from a COVID-19 Relief Fund from the Corps Network, NJYCP was able to procure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (masks, gloves, sanitizers, etc.) that would allow them to return to work with the PPE they needed to remain safe. The Phillipsburg program has worked with over 1,000 young men and women providing over 200,000 hours of service to the Phillipsburg community since its inception.

Taino Towers EnVision Center Assists Community During the Covid-19 Pandemic
The Taino Towers EnVision Center located in the joint-epicenter of the pandemic teamed up with a multitude of community partners to tackle COVID-19. The nation’s first bilingual EnVision Center and its lead partners, Operation Equivalency, Arco Management, Union Settlement’s Business Development Center, and the Boriken Health Center worked with service providers to provide residents of Taino Towers and the East Harlem community an array of essential services during the pandemic.
"The Taino Towers EnVision Center is providing East Harlem families with much needed support and a peace of mind through essential services such as medicine and food delivery during the COVID-19 crisis," said Lynne Patton, HUD Regional Administrator for New York and New Jersey. "What Taino Towers is doing for its community and the City of New York is nothing short of remarkable. The EnVision Center and its partners are stepping up to help their neighbors. The Center will continue to focus on providing local residents with a pathway to self-sufficiency and economic empowerment."
Taino Towers’ lead EnVision Center partners, Operation Equivalency and Arco Management, collaborated with La Fonda Boricua, World Central Kitchen, and Chefs For America to provide over 2000 meals a day to East Harlem residents. This would not have been possible without the leadership of Maria Cruz, Director of Arco Management, Francisco "Tony" Lantigua, Chair of Operation Equivalency, and the Honorable Edward Gibbs, East Harlem District Leader.
East Harlem residents are not the only ones receiving meals. Union Settlement’s Business Development Center, another EnVision Center partner, teamed up with NYC Health and Metropolitan Hospital to provide meals to Metropolitan Hospital’s healthcare workers assisting with the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of twenty local restaurants and delis are participating by providing over 180 lunches and 180 dinners to front-line healthcare workers seven days per week.
Boriken Health Center is another lead EnVision Center partner that stepped up to the plate by providing patient care in innovative ways to meet the needs of the community during the pandemic. The Boriken Pharmacy is offering free delivery throughout the five boroughs of Manhattan. Boriken is providing care through video (telemedicine) and telephone visits. The Center is seeing about 50 percent of its patients through telemedicine and telephone visits (about 20+ visits a week) and the other 50 percent through clinic visits.
The team of medical professionals that the community has always relied on are still available. Physicians, physician assistants, social workers, registered nurses, pharmacists, dentists, and other medical professionals are all offering telemedicine services. In emergencies, in-person care is still available.
The Taino Towers EnVision Center has been instrumental in aiding the East Harlem community during these challenging times, but it has been there to assist the community since its inception. The brainchild of Secretary Carson, EnVision Centers offer families support and federal resources to help them achieve self-sufficiency. EnVision Centers are premised on the fact that financial support alone is insufficient to solve poverty. Focused collective efforts across various organizations are needed to realize a more holistic path to foster lasting self-sufficiency.
New center to help families become self-sufficient

New center to help families become self-sufficient
A new center to assist families in public housing will be established in Bristol, Virginia by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Bristol Redevelopment and Housing Authority. HUD’s "EnVision" center will offer assisted families support to help them achieve self-sufficiency, according to a written statement. EnVision centers provide a centralized hub to access support in economic empowerment, educational advancement, health and wellness and character and leadership.
"We will not measure success by the number of people who enter this new EnVision center," Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Joseph J. DeFelice said in the statement. "Success will be measured by the number of individuals who achieve greater self-sufficiency - who no longer require assistance from our programs - who gain the financial independence to be able to rent, or even buy, their own homes." Lynn Pannell, the authority’s family self-sufficiency director, will oversee the program, which will be housed at the current Find A Way office.

HUD and Local Officials Kick Off EnVision Center Demonstration in Bristol
To help low-income residents increase their income and gain self-sufficiency, the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Joseph J. DeFelice joined Bristol Redevelopment and Housing Authority Executive Director Lisa Porter, City of Bristol, Virginia Mayor Neal Osborne and City of Bristol, Tennessee Mayor Margaret Feierabend in announcing a new designated HUD EnVision Center demonstration in the City of Bristol, Virginia, joining dozens of communities across the country taking this vital step to offer support services for the benefit of its residents.
"We will not measure success by the number of people who enter this new EnVision Center," stated DeFelice. "Success will be measured by the number of individuals who achieve greater self-sufficiency—who no longer require assistance from our programs—who gain the financial independence to be able to rent, or even buy, their own homes."
Regional Administrator DeFelice made the virtual announcement through a twitter posting @JoeDeFeliceHUD this morning.
The announcement, which can be seen in its entirety on the HUD Mid-Atlantic YouTube Playlist, includes interviews with Mayor Osborne, Mayor Feierabend, Director Porter and one of the primary partners in the venture, the United Way of Bristol’s Executive Director Lisa Cofer. BRHA Resident Services Manager Lynn Pannell leads a virtual tour at the Bristol Redevelopment and Housing Authority’s (BRHA) Find a Way Office which will become the new EnVision Center. Ms. Pannell will oversee the agency’s assistance to residents at the Center. Located on or near public housing developments, EnVision Centers provide communities with a centralized hub to access support in the following four pillars: Economic Empowerment, Educational Advancement, Health and Wellness, and Character and Leadership.
"The EnVision Center designation will allow us to expand and enhance our case management offerings to BRHA clients as well as to those in need throughout the greater Bristol communities. Under a nonprofit umbrella, we plan to work with our partners to be a ‘one stop’ resource combatting a generational cycle of poverty," said Director Porter. "This fits with our long-range plans for the Authority as we reposition ourselves for the future."
"This designation is an important advantage for Bristol and will provide a streamlined approach to resources for residents working to achieve self-sufficiency," stated Mayor Osborne. "EnVision Centers offer valuable training that delivers educational opportunities, leads to future employment, and improves health outcomes by eliminating barriers to access. We’re excited to receive this designation and to begin the process of providing services to Bristolians on both sides of the state line."
"Many agencies within Bristol collaborate to offer services to residents wanting to develop their work skills, gain more in-depth education, and reach greater levels of independence," added Mayor Feierabend. "We’re grateful to know that agencies and organizations can now come under the roof of the EnVision Center to offer these essential resources in one centralized location, making it easier for all Bristolians—whether from Virginia or Tennessee—to achieve a greater quality of life."
EnVision Centers Prove to be Community Pillars

During the coronavirus pandemic, two current EnVision Centers and two potential sites prove themselves as true pillars of their communities. In Ohio, the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA), which operates the RISE EnVision Center, provided over 600 wellness bags to residents and essential property management personnel at its senior housing communities. Each bag contained healthy essentials and a $25 gift card to Kroger with instructions on how to sign up for a free shuttle to their local store during senior shopping hours. CMHA volunteers packaged and delivered all bags to residents’ doors. Also in Ohio, the Rockford Village EnVision Center in partnership with the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority (YMHA) distributed 50 buckets of cleaning supplies to the community in addition to already issuing food and diapers weekly. Residents called the EnVision Center or the YMHA management staff to register and then came into the office to pick up supplies according to proper social distancing measures.
Rockford Village staff members delivered additional buckets to senior residents. The EpiCenter in Ohio recently applied to be an EnVision Center, and one of its tenants, Building Bridges to Careers Makerspace, used its fiber art, laser cutting, and 3D printing areas to produce face shields and surgical masks for the Marietta community. Makerspace now produce about 100 shields a day and serve as a hub for local makers to drop off supplies. Finally, the Housing Authority of Cook County, which also applied for a designation, partnered with Chicago-based Top Box Foods to provide delivery of fresh produce and other items to more than 700 south suburban public housing residents in food deserts.

COVID-19 has paralyzed and shutdown some organizations in their tracks but not aSTEAM Village, a designated EnVision Center in Kansas City, Missouri. aSTEAM Village has thrived under the current lockdown and expanded network capacity by leaps and bounds. William Wells, Executive Director of aSTEAM Village, is the architect for the new EnVision Center platform that has driven digital transformation to a whole new level.
Through this novel digital platform, partners can sign on for a dedicated port, share their website and resources, and launch webinars and virtual meetings. In addition, partners have free access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the Virtual Academy—a huge collection of K-12th grade classes, information and computer technology certifications, and adult learning courses that supports aSTEAM Village’s virtual classroom. As Williams notes, "Parents are once again becoming teachers."
During this period of social distancing, Williams has also led two EnVision Center webinars to partnering organizations. In this challenging time, aSTEAM Village continues to provide innovative services to its partners and clients.
Over 3,000 masks to be delivered to Meridian Housing Authority residents
The Meridian Housing Authority is partnering with the City of Meridian to distribute masks to all residents in the MHA.
A press conference was held at the EnVision Center Thursday about how masks will be distributed amongst the residents. MHA personnel will go door to door tomorrow and place a bag with the masks on each handle. MHA executive director Ronald Turner, Sr. says these masks are important because COVID-19 is hitting underserved communities very hard.
"We’re excited, our residents are very, very excited about receiving these masks and complying with all of the mandates by our state and by our local government," Turner says. "Our residents are anticipating these bags and as soon as they receive them, we’re just hoping and we’re just trusting that they’re going to start wearing these masks out in the open public."
MHA will be distributing over 3,800 face masks.

Phillipsburg EnVision Center Assists Community During the COVID-19 Pandemic
The Phillipsburg EnVision Center located in one of the hardest hit states of the pandemic does not tackle COVID-19 alone. Beginning on March 13th, the Phillipsburg EnVision Center partnered with the Joseph H. Firth Youth Center (FYC) to provide 3,615 lunches to families in need and launched initiatives to help students. When Phillipsburg’s schools transitioned to on-line learning, FYC provided needed school supplies, gave away over 500 books, provided internet access, and provided photocopies for continued success outside of the classroom for the town’s at-risk youth. High school seniors are also receiving assistance with their college scholarship applications through proofreading, printing services, and even the mailing of scholarship applications.
The Phillipsburg EnVision Center and FYC have left no stone unturned. Over the Easter holiday, families with children received written notes in the mail from the "Easter Bunny." It’s these small acts that separate the Phillipsburg community from most.
HUD’s EnVision Centers offer families support and federal resources to help them achieve self-sufficiency. EnVision Centers are premised on the fact that financial support alone is insufficient to solve poverty. Focused collective efforts across various organizations are needed to realize a more holistic path to foster lasting self-sufficiency.
"The Phillipsburg EnVision Center is providing New Jersey families with much needed support in the epicenter of the COVID-19 crisis," said Lynne Patton, HUD Regional Administrator for New York and New Jersey. "I am proud of this community for stepping up to help their neighbors. This EnVision Center will continue to provide local residents with a pathway to self-sufficiency and economic empowerment."
Located on or near public housing developments, EnVision Centers provide communities with a centralized hub to access support under the following four pillars: Economic Empowerment, Educational Advancement, Health and Wellness, and Character and Leadership. The Philipsburg EnVision Center had its grand opening on December 9, 2019.

EnVision Center at Aeroterra Continues to Support Residents Where It Counts
Photo: above - Aeroterra EnVision Center food distribution to residents during COVID-19 pandemic and below - Census Recruitment Fair for Census 2020 jobs.
Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau counts every person living in the United States. The results are used to determine representation in Congress, and it helps to inform how billions of dollars are distributed for hospitals, schools, roads and more. Not only will the 2020 Census provide critical data to determine services and support for communities for the next few years, but it also comes with immediate benefits. There are thousands of job opportunities available to help complete the Census 2020 count. Aeroterra Community Center, an EnVision Center in Phoenix, Arizona took advantage of those job opportunities for the many low-income residents in their neighborhood. Partnering with their local Census Bureau, Aeroterra hosted two recruitment fairs, where residents were able to learn about the Census 2020 job opportunities and apply on the spot. Over 27 residents have applied for these jobs to date.
In these uncertain times, the EnVision Center at Aeroterra continues to provide essential services to its residents, including bringing a mobile pantry to families with the help of St. Mary’s Food Bank. They have also continued their partnership with the Census Bureau, who is working with FPM in Headquarters to bring reusable bags to Aeroterra to use in their food distribution to the community. Another example of the positive impacts that come from public-private partnerships at EnVision Centers. Under the leadership of HUD’s Phoenix Field Office Director Stephanie Smelnick, Aeroterra Community Center has achieved great success as an EnVision Center.

In response to the COVID-19 health crisis in Ohio, EnVision Center partners Heart Reach Neighborhood Ministries and the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority (YMHA) have been providing meal distribution through the Rockford Village EnVision Center. As a contracted sponsor for the Ohio Department of Education’s Summer Food Service Program in the greater Youngstown area and receiving a designation as an essential service, Heart Reach Neighborhood Ministries began providing weekly meal packs for children and youth on March 24. Staff and volunteers distributed more than 1,500 meals at the YMHA Rockford Village EnVision Center campus by April 21 while maintaining strict social distancing guidelines. Families also receive the Heart Reach Neighborhood Ministries activity packs, along with those from community-based organizations such as the OH WOW! Life Remodeled, a nonprofit corporation based in Detroit and an EnVision Center lead partner, held a food distribution event at the Durfee Innovation Society, where one of the Detroit EnVision Centers is also located. Life Remodeled teamed up with Gleaners Food Bank and Brilliant Detroit to distribute boxes of nutritious food to those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was held in accordance with strict health safety guidelines in the parking lot of the Durfee Innovation Society. According to Chris Lambert, CEO of Life Remodeled, "more than 40 cars lined up an hour before the event even started." The event successfully provided food for a total of 300 families in less than 3 hours, providing much needed relief to many area residents.

Arlington’s EnVision Center will be the 39th in the nation and the fourth in Texas. Fort Worth’s is in Stop Six; San Antonio and Brownsville also have EnVision Centers.
Benjamin DeMarzo, HUD deputy secretary for field policy and management, said the goal of the EnVision Center is not only to connect people with services but also give them tools to achieve self-sufficiency.
The center will also host classes, workshops and United Way of Tarrant County’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance services.
DeMarzo said the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, more commonly known as the FDIC, teaches financial literacy classes.
He said Arlington was chosen because of strong leadership from Mayor Jeff Williams and the City Council.
Williams said he believes one reason the city was selected for the center is its track record of getting things done.
He is excited that the EnVision Center will host services relating to economic empowerment, educational advancement, health and wellness and character and leadership, which HUD Secretary Ben Carson describes as the four pillars of self-sufficiency.
Mindy Cochran, executive director of the Arlington Housing Authority, said one of the best things about the center is that these services are no longer restricted to residents benefiting from the Arlington Housing Authority.
The center will also be purchasing software to track the progress of those who use services. Cochran said showing the success of the EnVision Center could lead to funding for services from HUD.
Arlington resident LaCheryl Royal said these services have already had an impact on her.
Royal arrived in Arlington a year ago, selling her car to move from west Texas with the dream of being a teacher and owning a small business.
She said one of her first days in Arlington she was feeling spiritually drained. After dropping her kids off at pre-school, Royal said she took a ride to the Walmart on Randol Mill Road, "the place we all go when our souls need replenishment."
There she said a Walmart employee could see she was down and told her to cheer up.
" ‘It’s the American Dream City,’ she told me," Royal said. "That’s when I remembered that I moved to Arlington because of that slogan: the American Dream City."
Royal said services like those offered at the EnVision Center can make Arlington that dream city for most residents.
She took her teacher certification test Feb. 20 and was accepted into a class to help Arlington residents forge their own small businesses on Tuesday, feats she said were made more accessible by services in the city.

Living up to its moniker of "American Dream City," Arlington took a step on Thursday to help fight poverty with a new coalition.
The city, in partnership with the Arlington Housing Authority and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, launched the city's EnVision Center, defined as a "one-stop shop" to aid people in reaching self-sufficiency.
The project will help people to obtain Economic Empowerment, Educational Advancement, Health and Wellness, and Character and Leadership. Arlington's Center will be just the fourth in Texas and the 39th in the country.
"Today is the culmination of making a dream a reality," said Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams. "This is going to make a difference in people's lives."
Williams said the city was ready to team up with The Tomorrow Foundation, the Arlington Life Shelter, the Parks and Recreation Department, among others, to make this vision happen.
United Way-Arlington's Vice President and Regional Director Regina Williams said this program will benefit all Arlington residents, not just ones in poverty.
"We're ready to move beyond just a dream," she said. "We're going to watch it become a reality. We're invested and committed to make Arlington a Dream City in every zip code."
Secretatry of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Ben Carson was unable to attend, but submitted a video thanking Arlington for its commitment to the program.
"We appreciate the work and sacrifice of Arlington to make this a reality," he said. "We'd like to thank the efforts of the United Way, Hope Tutoring, the Arlington Public Libraries and St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church for their contributions.
Benjamin DeMarzo, the HUD Assistant Deputy Secretary for Field Policy andn Management, credited Mayor Williams for leading the efforts to make this happen.
"The Mayor is the type of man that can bring people together," he said. "We can't do this without the people. That's what makes things like this work

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development designated Arlington as a new location for its EnVision Center initiative on Thursday.
The centers are centralized "one-stop" shops for low-income families looking for self-sufficiency, said Benjamin DeMarzo, Housing and Urban Development assistant deputy secretary for field policy and management.
The centers are nationwide, with four now located in Texas, according to a Housing and Urban Development press release. Arlington’s center is located inside the Arlington Human Service Center.
The centers are there to help and based on four key pillars: economic empowerment, educational advancement, health and wellness, and character and leadership, he said.
Ben Carson, Housing and Urban Development secretary, created the EnVision Center initiative to bring people together and give them the opportunity to achieve their dreams, DeMarzo said.
Through different nonprofits and organizations, DeMarzo said the center will offer mental health services as well as financial literacy and health classes.
Exiting military service members can find it hard to say what services and resources they need, said Regina Williams, United Way Arlington vice president and regional director.
United Way is a nonprofit organization, and its Mission United initiative helps military members, she said. The center will have a representative from Mission United to make sure military service members are represented within the center as well.

Mayor Jeff Williams said the designation is a milestone and a chance to empower people to become more economically advantaged. He said the goal is for every citizen in Arlington to have the same opportunities.
"Today is a culmination of making a dream a reality," Williams said. "This is one of those tools that we’re going to be able to use to make a difference in people’s lives."
Arlington resident LaCheryl Royal spoke about her move to Arlington and living the American dream by utilizing services like the center will offer.
Royal said she moved to Arlington from west Texas with her two children to achieve her dream of starting her own business and to become a teacher.
She attended a financial seminar in the same room where the EnVision Center is now located and said the services given there offered her the opportunity to strive for her dreams.
She subbed for Arlington Independent School District and took her teacher certification this week, Royal said.
"Anyone can dream here," she said. "But you first have to envision the dream."

Today at an event in Arlington with Mayor Jeff Williams, the Arlington Housing Authority and local partners, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development officially designated Arlington’s EnVision Center.
This designation serves as a critical component of HUD Secretary Ben Carson’s EnVision Center initiative to offer a more holistic housing approach by connecting HUD-assisted families with the tools that can lead to self-sufficiency.
"EnVision Centers are a way to connect local resources with the people who need them the most. From job training to financial counseling, vital services will be provided that will have an unimaginable impact on the lives of the people being helped," said Benjamin DeMarzo, HUD Assistant Deputy Secretary for Field Policy and Management, who traveled from Washington, D.C., to speak at the event. "I look forward to seeing the brighter futures the EC will bring to the Arlington community."

"We’re excited for today’s EnVision Center designation," Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams said. "The Center will assist Arlington Housing Authority clients and city residents, and we look forward to providing more resources for our low-income families to help break the chain of poverty in our city, and I want to thank HUD and Secretary Ben Carson for supporting Arlington and empowering our families with opportunities to improve their economic outlook."
The Arlington EnVision Center will be located at the Arlington Human Service Center, 501 W. Sanford Street. Services provided within the Arlington EnVision Center will include:
Referrals to youth leadership programs like Girls Inc. and Life Skills classes from the housing authority (Character and Leadership Pillar)

"United Way of Tarrant County is committed to partnering with the City of Arlington’s Housing Authority to enhance service delivery for Arlington residents. Through our regional office, United Way-Arlington, we are excited to support the pillars of the EnVision Center through programs such as VITA and our veteran services initiative, Mission United," said Regina R. Williams, United Way of Tarrant County's vice president of community investment and regional director for Arlington.

Friendly Temple EnVision Center celebrates with ribbon cutting ceremony
Kansas City - HUD Great Plains Regional Administrator Jason Mohr traveled to St. Louis to join Bishop Michael Fulton Jones, Sr., the Honorable Jeffery Boyd, City of St. Louis Alderman Ward 22, EnVision Center Network Partners and community stakeholders to celebrate the grand opening of the Friendly Temple EnVision Center @Langston, the first HUD EnVision Center in St. Louis, MO. Friendly Temple Baptist Missionary was one of three EnVision Center designations in St. Louis announced in December 2019. One of Secretary Carson’s signature initiatives, EnVision Centers will offer HUD-assisted families access to support services that can help them achieve self-sufficiency, thereby making scarce federal resources more readily available to a greater number of households currently waiting to receive HUD assistance. Read more about HUD’s EnVision Center Demonstration.
"Friendly Temple EnVision Center will offer a housing approach by connecting HUD-assisted and low-income families with the tools and resources they need to become economically independent and flourish," said Regional Administrator Jason Mohr.
"We look forward to increasing our capacity to serve the community with more programs and services at Friendly Temple EnVision Center," added Bishop Michael F. Jones, Sr. "This important HUD designation will encourage investment to move individuals and families to self-sufficiency."
Located on or near public housing developments, EnVision Centers will be centralized hubs that serve as an incubator to support four key pillars of self-sufficiency— (1) Economic Empowerment, (2) Educational Advancement, (3) Health and Wellness, and (4) Character and Leadership.
Through results-driven partnerships with organizations such as: federal agencies, state and local governments, non-profits, faith-based organizations, corporations, public housing authorities, and housing finance agencies, EnVision Centers will leverage public-private partnerships to connect HUD-assisted households with services that offer pathways to self-sufficiency.
Prior to the grand opening, Friendly Temple convened with their local stakeholders and resident councils to assist in the selection of services to be offered at the Center, as a means of ensuring that many voices are heard and the needs identified are addressed. HUD will develop tools to track and measure resident outcomes of EnVision Center participants and services - the goal of which is to ensure the EnVision Centers are able to achieve and monitor progress against the goals of the program.

Bowling Green Housing Authority 'EnVision Center' A National Model
The Bowling Green Housing Authority has gained national attention for its programs, especially its EnVision Center.
A group of visitors from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the philanthropic organization Scholarship America recently came to see some of the activities at the Bowling Green facility.
The group included Michael Browder, deputy regional administrator for Region 4 of HUD, which covers eight southeastern states, as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Browder said Bowling Green's efforts have earned a place in the national spotlight.
"I would say without a doubt it is one of the best EnVision Centers in the country," said Browder. "It is actually the first one we did here in Kentucky. It is an example to be emulated throughout the country."
The EnVision Center serves all ages, with activities that include afterschool programs for children and projects for the elderly and disabled.
Representatives from HUD and Scholarship America view a demonstration of the flight simulator at the EnVision Center.
"Part of the value, part of the goal with EnVision Center, is to bring federal partners into one place to be able to bring services to the community," Browder said. "And so this is an opportunity, we’re bringing some federal partners, the Department of Labor, and some others, some private philanthropic companies, individual foundations to come take a look at the project, come look at the center and see what kind of things can be done."
Katie Miller, spokesperson for the Bowling Green Housing Authority, said it was the first visit by the representatives of Scholarship America. The purpose of this initial visit was to talk about scholarship opportunities for students in the afterschool program at the EnVision Center.
The group visited other Bowling Green Housing Authority projects, including the greenhouse, cabinet shop and mobile grocery.

EETC Advisory Board Members working together to address its EnVison Center service gaps.
On February 18th, 2020, the San Antonio Eastside Education Training Center (EETC) held a Strategic Planning Meeting with its Advisory Board to identify its first service gap to address since receiving its EnVision Center Designation on December 18th, 2019 by Secretary Dr. Ben Carson. The EETC is a training center within the San Antonio Eastside Promise Zone, administered by Alamo Colleges, that provides free training in healthcare, information technology, and construction with wrap-around services, and also serves as a hub for weekly food bank farmers markets, financial literacy classes, seasonal events, and other community resources. Its Advisory Board is made up of representatives from community organizations and government entities throughout San Antonio including HUD, City of San Antonio, San Antonio ISD, Bexar County, SAHA, Alamo Colleges, SAGE, Goodwill, United Way, Chrysalis Ministries, and Workforce Solutions.
Together these organizations identified night class programming as an objective they could achieve to expand the EETC’s services. The Advisory Board then split up into 4 working groups, rolled up their sleeves, and tackled strategies for all the elements needed to achieve this goal and create a comprehensive action plan. They established a deadline to achieve the first steps to this objective and are now hard at work to move the needle in providing this service to the EETC and increase its already monumental impact in the San Antonio community.
This sort of collaboration is an amazing example of teamwork to serve the people of San Antonio. It’s an honor for HUD to be a part of such a great community effort and find so much support for its EnVision Center initiative to provide the American people with one stop centers for Health and Wellness, Economic Empowerment, Educational Advancement, and Character and Leadership.

HUD grant provides housing and support services in Wilmington
A $142,000 federal grant will lead to a newly designated EnVision Center at Crestview Apartments, Wilmington. "This $142,000 investment in an accessible resource center at Crestview is going to make a real difference for families in this community," said U.S. Sen. Chris Coons. "The decade that I spent in county government—working alongside city government—gave me a window into programs like EnVision and how, together, we can help make quality housing and supportive services available to everyone in our state. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Senate Appropriations Committee, which allows me to fight to bring home resources to Delaware." The EnVision Center demonstration program is a new initiative by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to offer families living in HUD-assisted housing access to support services. EnVision Centers aim to provide communities with centralized hubs for support in four main pillars: economic empowerment, educational advancement, health and wellness, and character and leadership.

Housing Authority of Brownsville Designated EnVision Center
![]() |
On Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., officials from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) traveled to Brownsville, Texas to join Mayor Trey Mendez, the Housing Authority of the City of Brownsville, Revival of Cultural Arts (ROCA), and federal and local partners for the official designation of the Brownsville EnVision Center at the Buena Vida Choice Community Center.
EnVision Centers are one-stop shops where community residents can get the tools they need to become self-sufficient, including education, job training and access to healthcare. The Community of Brownsville is the third EnVision Center designation in the State of Texas. The HACB mission’s to provide access to affordable, quality housing and achieve self-sufficiency through education and collaborative partnerships, for all residents, is in line with the four pillars required of EnVision Centers: Economic empowerment, educational advancement, character & leadership, and health & wellness.
Leslie Bradley, Deputy Regional Administrator for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development and native of the City of Brownsville said, "I’m not surprised the Housing Authority of the City of Brownsville was selected as one of three En Vision Centers in the Texas. Over the years, I have traveled to Brownsville to visit my grandparents and family and have seen the amazing growth. I am proud of your success!"
Unabyrd Wadhams, EnVision Center Program Manager for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development shared her excitement and thanked Carla Mancha, Chief Executive Officer for the Housing Authority of the City of Brownsville, the City of Brownsville Mayor & Commissioners, State and Federal representatives, recognizing US Department of Commerce Census Bureau employee in the audience, Census Partnership Specialist Juan M. Gonzalez and the Census Bureau for quickly bringing jobs to the Buena Vida residents. Wadhams went on to list some of the private and nonprofit national collaborations that make the 38 EnVision Centers in 26 states a success.
The event was attended by local, county, state and federal dignitaries and the Buena Vida DAMAS women’s group, Buena Vida Commissioner Laura Villarreal, Buena Vida residents, community partners and business leaders. Closing remarks were offered by Marina Zolezzi, Assistant to the City Manager echoing the words of encouragement and gratitude for all that made this EnVision Center Designation possible and finished with a proud shout of enthusiasm, "Viva Brownsville!"
Attendees then were invited to partake of homemade refreshments cooked & prepared in the Buena Vida Compassion Kitchen by Buena Vida residents of chips, salsa and aguas frescas. An art exhibit of the Revival of Cultural Arts Grupo de Oro (elderly Buena Vida residents art group) was displayed at the Buena Vida Choice Neighborhood Headquarters while US Census Bureau pens, pencils, informational bookmarks and Census 2020 jobs flyers were shared with all present.

HUD dubs Buena Vida headquarters ‘EnVision Center’
![]() |
Perhaps as much as anything, HUD’s designation of the Buena Vida Choice Neighborhood headquarters as an "EnVision Center" recognizes the work the Housing Authority of the City of Brownsville is already doing.
Officials from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Brownsville housing authority, the City of Brownsville gathered with state and federal representatives and others Wednesday at Buena Vida headquarters to celebrate the designation, officially proclaimed by EnVision Center Program Manager Unabyrd Wadhams.
Brownsville is the third city in Texas to receive the designation, which, according to HUD, is part of HUD Secretary Ben Carson’s initiative to "offer a more holistic housing approach by connecting HUD-assisted families with the tools that can lead to self sufficiency."
The idea, according to HUD, is that EnVision Centers will serve as incubators supporting four pillars of self sufficiency: economic empowerment, educational advancement, health and wellness, and character and leadership.
HACB Chief Executive Office Carla Mancha said her organization, the city and Revival of Cultural Arts/Carlotta Petrina Cultural Center submitted the application to become part of the EnVision Center program. A team from HUD visited Buena Vida and saw that its programming already encompassed the spirit of the initiative, she said.
"The mission of the EnVision Center program is to move families out of dependency and into self sufficiency, to empower the families," Mancha said. "The housing authority has already been doing that. ... The importance of our mission is not about how many units we build, how many houses we build. It’s not about the brick and mortar, it’s about what’s inside, and what’s inside is the family."
![]() |
No funding accompanies the designation, though HUD will provide technical assistance and Buena Vida will benefit as part of a network of dozens of EnVision Centers around the country, she said. "It’s up to us to take this designation and make it work when we create new opportunities with our partners," Mancha said. "Furthermore, the designation itself will help us leverage future funding."
Wadhams said HUD funding has risen over the years though the number of households served has remained about the same, and that the department "recognizes that we need to think differently about addressing the affordable housing shortage, and our work at HUD is more dynamic and creative than merely pouring more money on the same problems." Rather, the department encourages public-private partnerships in communities to help families move toward self sufficiency, Wadhams said.
Among the speakers at Wednesday’s event was District 1 City Commission Nurith Galonsky, who praised HACB’s work. "They do a great job in the community," she said. "I’ve gotten to know them pretty well since I got elected in the past seven months and even before that. They really are the example for our community that we should all follow."
HACB has 20 affordable housing developments in the city and broke ground last fall on Poinsettia Gardens, a 150-unit development near HACB headquarters on Boca Chica Boulevard. Future projects include the 48-unit Trail Village off Paredes Line Road, and the demolition and reconstruction of the Buena Vida complex, Brownsville oldest affordable housing development, built in 1938.

"It’s something that is very valuable to us, more than anything because it validates what we’ve been doing in Brownsville," Sampayo said. "What we’ve been doing in Brownsville and what we will be doing in the future is something that everybody should be taking note of."
Also, HACB bought the derelict El Jardin Hotel on East Levee Street downtown late last year and is moving forward with plans to restore it for affordable housing, with a possible commercial component. Patricio Sampayo, HACB chairman, highlighted the housing authority’s partnerships with the city and ROCA/Carlotta Petrina, saying the priority from day one has been "to put our families first." He echoed the sentiment that the HUD honor simply recognizes that ongoing work.

BROWNSVILLE, Texas - From job training classes to financial counseling, residents who receive government assistance for housing in Brownsville now have even more help.
It began with the grand opening this morning of the EnVision Center at the Buena Vida Choice Neighborhood headquarters. Funding for the new center comes from the U.s. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The idea is to offer the tools to help HUD families to a path of self-sufficiency.
And it’s a way to connect people with local resources for a brighter future.
Mayor Trey Mendez, "You have a lot of organizations working together towards a common goal and this is one of them. Making sure that our community has tools and resources that it needs to advance itself, and in a community like this especially it’s important for us."
The Brownsville EnVision Center is one of only three EnVision centers in Texas. One of the most important parts of the center involves health classes with a focus on diabetes prevention and other health and wellness issues.

AUDIO. Helping low-income residents increase their income and gain self-sufficiency is the goal of support services being offered to Wilmington residents by the U.S. Housing and Urban Development. Pharmacy Tech program kicks off at new Roanoke EnVision Center
If you ask Shanequa Battle her favorite subject, she more than likely will not say it’s math. "Take me back to that math, oh my god! It’s hard, it’s hard! It’s not at easy as I thought it was going to be," said Battle, a resident at the Villages at Lincoln. Battle has lived at the Villages for the last three years. For the last several weeks, she’s participated in a student success program, to get ready for a pharmacy tech program. "A lot of times people don’t really know what’s out there. So I think this is kind of bringing it to them and educating them on how they can receive help if needed," said Greg Goodman, the family self- sufficiency coordinator for the neighborhood. This past November, the Department of Housing and Urban Development picked Roanoke to have an EnVision Center. The pharmacy tech program is the first 14-week class the EnVison Center is offering. "When that light hits and you see oh I get it, this is what I want to do and just seeing them reach goals, even if they’re small goals, but you know they’re building up and reaching something big, and that’s just great to see," said Greg Goodman. For Shanequa, her goal in completing the course is to provide for Amira, her two-year-old daughter. [Editorial note: consult source link for video]
Alliance between federal Department of Housing and Sor Isolina Ferré Centers
The Puerto Rican nonprofit organization will be part of the federal EnVision initiative that promotes economic empowerment, educational advancement, leadership and health. The work promoted by Sr. Isolina Ferré half a century ago at Ponce Beach and that has transformed thousands of lives in the country, continues to yield good results. This time, the work of the Sor Isolina Ferré Centers (CSIF) captured the attention of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. (HUD), by designating the organization as the first EnVision Center in Puerto Rico. The program, established in some 30 US locations, is granted to institutions that comply with four pillars, among which are: economic empowerment, educational progress, health and well-being, and character and leadership.

Sor Isolina Ferré Centers receive important designation from HUD
It is the title of EnVision Center, a designation granted to entities that comply with the four pillars of this program: economic empowerment, educational progress, health and well-being, and character and leadership. "Sor Isolina Ferré Centers represent the vision of Secretary Carson of providing hope and integral help for more families to achieve economic self-sufficiency. They offer an effective combination to promote leadership, support services and education and work opportunities that have positively impacted the lives of many young people and their families. I am pleased to bring the EnVision Center designation during the 50-year work period, "said Cleveland-Leggett. For his part, the chief executive director of the CSIF, Luis E. Ortiz Ortiz, was grateful and satisfied with the designation that is given for the first time to a non-profit entity in Puerto Rico and that will also bring responsibilities, many opportunities for the Centers. "It means a great recognition of the work that the Centers have done in the past 50 years. It has been a significant work where thousands of children, youth and adults have touched and lives have been transformed. First we see it as a recognition and second we see it as a sense of responsibility and very great commitment for the participants, the people in the communities and in the different neighborhoods and residential areas, "said Ortiz.

HUD designates the Sor Isolina Ferrer Centers as EnVision Center
The Regional Administrator of the Department of Housing and Urban Development of the United States (HUD) Denise Cleveland-Leggett designated the Sor Isolina Ferrer Centers as EnVision Center.
