Kevin Cooke
General Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO)
Mr. Cooke was appointed the General Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in April 2024.
At FHEO, Mr. Cooke works to promote economic opportunities and community development while enforcing the Fair Housing Act other related laws nationwide and leads a team of 600 professionals. He has oversight responsibility for more than 8,500 complaint investigations through FHEO Staff and the Fair Housing Act Assistance Program (FHAP). Mr. Cooke oversees the Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP) funding more than 150 private fair housing groups and non-profits nationally.
Mr. Cooke has served as the Chief Government Information Management Officer and the Principal Deputy Chief Information Officer at Housing and Urban Development. Prior to HUD, Mr. Cooke progressed through the roles of the Director of IT Office Systems, Director of Human Capital and Administrative Management, and Associate Chief Information Officer for Information Technology Corporate Management (SES) at the United States Department of Energy.
Mr. Cooke has over 30 years of experience ensuring federal compliance, designing, improving, and implementing federal programs and business solutions as well as managing human resources, budgets, contracts, and technology for Federal Agencies.
He is a graduate of the Kentucky State University and the Federal Executive Institute. He has served on the boards of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the Government Information Technology Executive Council. He currently serves on Boards for the Kentucky State University Foundation, the Maryland Center at Bowie State University, the Worldwide Assurance for Employees of Public Agencies (WAEPA) and the Association for Federal Information Resources Management (AFFIRM).
