Fair housing trainers offered information and resources to combat discrimination faced by persons experiencing homelessness.

Every April HUD proudly celebrates Fair Housing Month. This year marked the 56th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act, the landmark civil rights law signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on April 11, 1968, that made discrimination in housing transactions unlawful. Locally, the San Juan Field Office of Fair Housing hosted two training events for over 100 participants from non-profit organizations that serve homeless individuals and families through the HUD Continuum of Care Program.

The trainers provided real-life examples of fair housing violations, information on reasonable accommodations, and how to identify potential housing discrimination based on issues common to this vulnerable population, such as discrimination based on sexual orientation, service animals, and substance abuse.
