The HUD Kentucky team recently joined local stakeholders to celebrate homeownership in the Algonquin neighborhood of Louisville. The celebration was hosted by Restoring Each Viable Economically Redlined Territory (REVERT), Louisville Affordable Housing Trust Fund (LAHTF)program that strives to provide homeownership opportunities for families disproportionately impacted in previously redlined neighborhoods. REVERT prioritizes its efforts on undervalued, abandoned, and vacant properties.

Ms. Kimberly Brim-Burns, a homeowner assisted via REVERT, praised the program, her realtor, the rehabilitation company that completed the restoration of her new home and encouraged the attendees. “If your dream is to become a homeowner, don’t give up, keep going and keep pushing. I didn’t think that I would be eligible, and by God’s grace, I was given the opportunity to receive funds from Louisville Metro Down payment Assistance Program and from REVERT, and they made my dream come true,” said Brim-Burns.

“As I look around, and I’ve done some research on the REVERT Program, I am really excited about the opportunity that exists here. Our goal and desire to provide opportunity for new homeowners of low to moderate income, and this program is just that,” said HUD Louisville Field Office Director Charles President Jr.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg emphasized these programs bring new opportunities. “It is no longer about redlining in our community, it’s about Greenlining. What I mean by that is we are intentionally investing in neighborhoods like Algonquin that have been overlooked.”

LAHTF Executive Director Christie McCravy thanked the Louisville Metro Government Officials for believing in the vision of the REVERT Program, and for helping right the wrongs from the past.
