On May 4th, Southeast Deputy Regional Administrator Tiffany Cobb joined Georgia Field Office Director Shea Johnson and Community Planning & Development Director Adrian Fields in presenting a $4,868,915 million grant to the Georgia Balance of State Continuum Care to address unsheltered and rural homelessness in the State of Georgia.

Commissioner for the Georgia Department of Community Affairs Christopher Nunn and representatives that make up the Georgia Balance of State Continuum of Care accepted the grant, which will help the Georgia Balance of State Continuum of Care nonprofit organizations combat rural homelessness. This event demonstrated a successful alliance between city, county, state, and federal partners in addressing homelessness in Georgia.

In addition to this grant, HUD invited 139 public housing authorities who partnered with the Continuum of Care communities to receive 3,362 Stability Vouchers to provide rental assistance to people experiencing or are at-risk of homelessness, including survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, or human trafficking. For GA, that included 120 vouchers, 110 vouchers for Georgia Residential Finance, five for the Housing Authority of the City of Albany, and another five for the Housing Authority of the City of Newnan. With these resources, service providers in Georgia will be able to implement coordinated approaches that connect homeless outreach, permanent housing, health, and supportive services to those living in rural areas.
