U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Washington, D.C 20410-8000 February 25, 1991 OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR TI-407 HOUSING-FEDERAL HOUSING COMMISSIONER MEMORANDUM FOR: ALL TITLE I LENDING INSTITUTIONS Attn: Installment Loan Department SUBJECT: Title I Express Telephone Service We are pleased to announce that, effective March 11, 1991, Title I lenders may use a toll-free number to contact HUD staff in Washington, D.C. for information or technical assistance on the Title I property improvement and manufactured home loan programs. The number is 1-800-733-HOME (or 1-800-733-4663). Calling hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays). In order to take advantage of this express telephone service, you must use a touch-tone telephone. Your calls will be automatically routed to the appropriate person who can answer your questions or provide technical assistance about any aspect of the Title I program. Lenders will also be able to use this number to obtain information about their monthly billing statements or to inquire about the status of pending claims. However, lenders are asked not to call requesting the status of pending claims until at least 30 days after they are filed with HUD, because this will only cause delays in claims processing. This express telephone service can also be used by borrowers to obtain the names of approved Title I lenders in their area, request information about the program, or register complaints. If you have any questions about this new service, please write to Robert J. Coyle, Director, Title I Insurance Division, Room 9158, 451 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20410, or call the Division on (202) 708-288 Sincerely yours, Arthur J. Hill Acting Assistant Secretary for Housing-Federal Housing Commissioner
