Department of Housing and Urban Development Washington, D.C. 20410-8000 September 23, 1992 OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR HOUSING-FEDERAL HOUSING COMMISSIONER Mortgagee Letter 92-32 TO: ALL APPROVED MORTGAGEES SUBJECT: Single Family Loan Production - The Revised Lead-Based Paint Notice This Mortgagee Letter is to inform lenders that the new procedure regarding the revised lead-based paint notice, as outlined in Mortgagee Letter 92-24 , is optional until December 1, 1992. Recent meetings with industry groups have indicated that the new procedure has not been disseminated as widely as we had anticipated. However, after that date, it is mandatory for the borrower to sign the revised lead-based paint notice on or before the date he or she executes the sales contract. If lenders choose to follow the former procedure, prior to December 1, 1992, they may either use the old or the new lead-based paint notice. If you have any questions, please contact your local HUD Field Office. Very sincerely yours, Arthur J. Hill Assistant Secretary for Housing - Federal Housing Commissioner *U.S. Government Printing Office: 1992 - 312-218/60282
