FHEO Requirements for Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program

Brief summary of FHEO role:

The Section 202 program provides capital advances to finance the construction, rehabilitation, or acquisition of properties to serve as supportive housing for very low-income elderly persons and provides rent subsidies for the projects to help make them affordable.

FHEO reviews Section 202 NOFO applications that involve new construction to determine whether the application is eligible for funding based on the site selected.  All sites for new construction must comply with the applicable site and neighborhood standards requirements set forth in the Section 202 program regulations at 24 C.F.R. 891.125. FHEO reviews proposed sites for new construction for compliance with 24 C.F.R. 891.125(b) and (c).

FHEO does not conduct site and neighborhood standards reviews of Section 202 NOFA applications that do not involve new construction (i.e., applications that involve acquisition and/or rehabilitation).
