Mission Statement:

The Office of the Chief Risk Officer provides executive level guidance and direction for the Department’s Risk Management activities.  The OCRO provides HUD with an enterprise-wide, strategically aligned portfolio view of the Department’s Enterprise and Fraud Risk Management Programs efforts to:

  • Identify, evaluate, and lead mitigation of enterprise-wide risks;
  • Promote a culture of risk awareness and accountability;
  • Protect the integrity, efficiency and security of HUD’s mission and operations; and
  • Safeguard stakeholder interests from emerging risks.

 

What We Do

Provide executive level leadership, management and oversight needed to mitigate exposures and anticipate challenges or threats to achieving HUD’s mission, goals, and strategic priorities.

Key Tasks:

  • Develop and implement HUD’s risk management policies and strategies to identify and mitigate the Department’s enterprise-wide risks.
  • Manage HUD’s Risk Profile and emerging risks, using assessments and mitigation techniques to support mission achievement across the Department.
  • Lead HUD’s Fraud Risk Management Program, to include exposure analysis and risk assessments, which identify and prioritize the Department’s vulnerability to financial and non-financial risks.
  • Identify and advise on risk response efforts to minimize the likelihood and impact of the most significant risks facing HUD, including  programmatic, operational, financial and non-financial exposures,  governance, and reputational risks.
  • Lead the Departments efforts to mature the Enterprise and Fraud Risk Programs, leveraging technologies, promoting process improvements, and utilizing data analytics needed to inform strategic priorities and decision making.
