Secretary Fudge Pens Open Letter on Addressing Junk Fees That Renters Face

HUD joins White House initiative put money back in the pockets of American families

WASHINGTON - U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Marcia L. Fudge today penned an open letter to the housing industry calling for action on junk fees that renters face, joining President Biden’s call to eliminate these hidden fees, charges, or add-ons. These fees can weaken market competition, raise costs for consumers and businesses, and hit the most vulnerable Americans the hardest.

Today, from 1-1:45 PM EST, the White House will assemble a group – Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, Ambassador Susan Rice, Domestic Policy Advisor, Lael Brainard, National Economic Council Director, senior leaders from across the Administration, and legislative leaders from across the country – to convene on legislative initiatives to address junk fees. Register for the Zoom Webinar at this link.
